Parent-School Communication is Key to Student Achievement

At Cadillac Area Public Schools, there are many ways we try to communicate with our school families. Part of that is making you aware of how and where you can go to get school information and be an active part in the education of your student. The more information we make available, the more you can be a part of the educational process. We want to encourage a positive link between the school and parents. To do that, here are some ways we provide information to you regarding your child.

Programs that encourage parent-school communication:

Title 1 Parent Compact

During fall parent-teacher conferences, we provide families with a letter outlining the school’s expectations for the student during the year, and what parents can expect to have happen as a result.

District Child Study

This is a specific intervention program we have for students with unique educational needs. In this case, we form a partnership with a team of school educators to determine what is best for the child.

Home Visits

To encourage face-to-face contact with our educators and your student and family, some circumstances warrant home visits to keep parents involved with school activities, or to introduce new students to our school district.

Parent Teacher Organizations

All five elementary schools have a parent-teacher organization. These groups plan fund-raising activities with proceeds put to use for worthwhile school related projects.

Activity Nights

Many of our buildings offer regular activity nights to encourage interaction between families. These are held at your child’s school.

Student Improvement and Progress Programs

Our schools offer programs and services meant to improve and strengthen both student success as well as parent involvement in the child’s education. We offer counseling services and coordinate with community groups as needed, provide weekly progress reports for students in grades 6-9, hold parent-teacher conferences twice per school year, and hold parent orientations for families at each transitional grade level.

Booster Organizations

At the secondary grade level, CAPS offers booster organizations to encourage parent and community involvement.

Information Sharing

You can receive up to date information by visiting our school website at www.Vikingnet.org.  You can also view Cadillac Community Television (CCTV), read the weekly newsletters sent home to students in grades Junior Kindergarten through 7th, or our quarterly newsletter, "All Around CAPS".

In addition, we are encouraging our staff to provide plenty of contact information to parents so that you can regularly communicate with your student’s educators.

Communication is key to the success of our school, and the parent-school link is just another way we can work together to enrich your child’s education.
