Expectations are high for a five year old child when they enter school as a kindergarten student because of the Federal Program "No Child Left Behind," and the State of Michigan Program "Education Yes."

What a Child Must Know Before Entering Kindergarten:

  • A child must be able to listen and follow directions
  • Be able to draw a person in full detail, a stick figure qualifies
  • They must be able to write their name
  • They must know the eight basic colors
  • They must know four basic shapes
  • They need to be able to recognize and know numbers from one to twenty
  • They must be able to listen and comprehend a two statement test
  • They must know the parts of a book
  • To help the five year old who may not be ready to start regular kindergarten, 
    CAPS offers Junior Kindergarten.

    What Junior Kindergarten provides a child:

  • Junior Kindergarten gives those who are not ready for school a chance for more learning
  • Its focus is on listening skills, following directions and establishing routines
  • It recognizes that learning is still learning, but learning can be fun
  • Helps kids be really ready to enter kindergarten
  • Minimizes learning struggles
