Expectations are high for a five year old child when they enter school as a kindergarten student because of the Federal Program "No Child Left Behind," and the State of Michigan Program "Education Yes."

What a Child Must Know Before Entering Kindergarten:

A child must be able to listen and follow directions

Be able to draw a person in full detail, a stick figure qualifies

They must be able to write their name

They must know the eight basic colors

They must know four basic shapes

They need to be able to recognize and know numbers from one to twenty

They must be able to listen and comprehend a two statement test

They must know the parts of a book

To help the five year old who may not be ready to start regular kindergarten,
CAPS offers Junior Kindergarten.

What Junior Kindergarten provides a child:

Junior Kindergarten gives those who are not ready for school a chance for more learning

Its focus is on listening skills, following directions and establishing routines

It recognizes that learning is still learning, but learning can be fun

Helps kids be really ready to enter kindergarten

Minimizes learning struggles
