Language Arts

Language Arts (2 Semesters)
This class is for students who have covered the basics in reading and are ready for comprehensive language arts class that may include grammar, literature, and writing as appropriate for each student.

Mathematics

Math 8 (2 Semesters)
Text: Math Thematics - Book 2
8th Grade math is a course for students that will prepare students to take either pre-algebra or life skills mathematics as freshmen.
Pre-Algebra (2 Semesters)
Text: Math Thematics - Book 3
This course is designed for students who need more traditional preparation for algebra. Emphasis is on using positive and negative numbers to solve one and two step equations and graphing.
Algebra I (2 Semesters)
Text: Discovering Algebra - Key Curriculum Press
Algebra is designed to give the student both the theory and practice essential to understanding the structure and applications of the real number system. Emphasis is on problem solving using algebra skills such as solving linear equations and graphing.
Prerequisite: Eighth graders with an average of less than 80% in 7th grade algebra should re-take algebra.
Geometry (2 Semesters)
Text: Discovering Geometry - Key Curriculum Press
This class is for students who have successfully completed both transition and algebra classes. Students should have passed algebra with an average of 80% or better have the approval of the teacher to take this course. Student's semester grades will appear on high school transcript.
