How can I help my child be successful in 5th grade?

Set up a homework routine.  Although your child will seldom be assigned "homework", they may bring daily class assignments home to finish.  It is helpful to set up a routine for completing homework.  Keep a small collection of school supplies in an easy to reach location.  Pencils, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, lined paper, a ruler, colored pencils or crayons, and a well lighted table or desk away from distractions will give your student a place to complete their work and show them that you think their work is important.

Check student planner often.  Your student has been given a planner to record all assignments and other important events and announcements.  This planner is also an easy way for you and I to communicate about your student.  Check your student's planner often to be sure they are recording and completing assignments.

Encourage, assist, but don't "do".  Your students will have many opportunities in 5th grade to grow and learn.  Be encouraging to your student when they struggle, and praise them when they accomplish their goals and make progress.  Please feel free to assist your students with work they bring home.  Your interest and support will have a positive impact on your student's success.  Be careful to give help and explanations, but let students complete assignments for themselves.

Communication! When you have questions, concerns, or need clarification about assignments or class activities please feel free to contact me at the numbers below.  When parents and teachers work together students' learning is enhanced.

How can I volunteer at Lincoln School?

The PTL meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm.  All parents are encouraged to attend to find out what is happening at Lincoln or to volunteer to help with activities.  Everyone is welcome!

Classroom volunteers.  Volunteers are always appreciated when they schedule times to assist with projects, read or work with students, or present their knowledge of the topics we are learning about.  Call 876-5437 to volunteer to help our class.

What is "COOL School ?

COOL School, or Calendar Of Optimal Learning, is a balanced calendar schedule that is offered at Lincoln School.  Our students are scheduled for the same number of instructional days as students in buildings offering a traditional calendar but our days are balanced more throughout the year.  We also offer sections of intercession during some of our breaks for extra optional instruction for students who wish to attend.

5th grade students have the opportunity to attend a Science/Outdoor Education Camp during our fall intercession.

When will I know what team my child will be on at MTMS?

MTMS divides their students into groups called teams.  Your child will be part of either a single (one teacher), diad  (two teachers) or a triad (three teachers)  Students will be placed on these teams during the summer between 5th and 6th grades. The principals at MTMS will contact your child  to let them know which team they will be on for 6th grade.  If they have received bus schedules by the time of their mailing they will include that information also.
